EN-RICH-MENT, A not for profit program that provides free music lessons, education, instruments, art, dance, voice and drumline to underserved urban youth ages 5 – 18, is launching its Drumline Academy.  This academy is for male and female participants ages 9 – 24.

EN-RICH-MENT will be expanding their junior and varsity drumlines and training interested youth to perform in community events and competitions.  All programs meet at the Arts in Stark Education Center, 1014 Cleveland Ave., NW.

Classes for juniors are from 10 am – 11 am; varsity 12 pm – 2 pm and girl’s 2 pm – 3 pm. Practice time for newly selected participants with little or no experience is to be determined.

Any youth interested in participating in the Drumline Academy must attend a meeting on Saturday, November 21, 1:30 pm at the Cleveland Avenue location.

Beginning in December 8th, EN-RICH-MENT drumline members will be attending monthly clinics hosted by the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps from Canton.

Drumline conditioning Program will be held May 17 – June 6.  June 7 – July 21 there will be a drumline technique camp. Youth will also visit the Bluecoat’s training camp for one day. Performers will appear in HOF community parade and other worth-while events.

According to Betty Smith, Executive Director of EN-RICH-MENT, studies have shown that drumming lowers both blood pressure and stress hormones. The active component of drumming helps reduce stress in a number of ways, it’s fun, it’s physical, and it’s a great diversion from other stress-filled activities. If youth need to vent, what better way than to hit something – a drum!
