He’s been dubbed “a theatrical institution” – and with good reason, because composer-lyricist
Jerry Herman wrote the scores for three of the biggest successes in Broadway history:
Hello, Dolly!, Mame and La Cage Aux Folles. This concert charts the career of a man who says he’s had “a lifelong romance with the show tune” – songs that are unashamedly optimistic and irresistibly hummable, first performed by such stars
as Angela Lansbury, Carol Channing and Barbra Streisand.
More than 100 years of America’s cultural history is tied to our musicals, and
The Musical Theater Project documents and celebrates that history in a seamless blend of entertainment and education. Founded in 2000, TMTP produces concerts, in-school residency programs, radio programming
and recordings that create personal connections with the songs, characters and themes of the American musical. The organization is also committed to documenting the lives of important American musical theater artists, exploring the connections between the
musical and the rich diversity of the American experience, and examining the relevance of musical theater in contemporary society.
Cain Park 2016 season sponsors include the Ohio Arts Council, The Westin Downtown Cleveland, oWOWNOW.com, and Motorcars Honda/Toyota/Scion. The media supporter for the Open A New Window concert at Cain Park is WCPN 90.3.
Cain Park, a municipally owned and operated summer arts park, is one of the nation’s oldest landmark outdoor theatres, and 2016 marks its 78th season. Cain Park is produced by the City of Cleveland Heights and is located on Superior Road between Lee and South
Taylor roads.
