The School of Creative Arts at Cuyahoga Community College announces auditions for, "Sometimes the Rain, Sometimes the Sea," by Julia Izumi. Auditions will take place from 6:00pm - 9:00pm on November 17th & 18th in the Murphy Theatre on the Tri-C Metro Campus.

All Tri-C students, faculty, staff, and community members are encouraged to audition. You do not have to be a currently enrolled student to participate! All roles are unpaid.

Sometime the Rain, Sometimes the Sea

Rehearsals start on: January 12th, 2026. Rehearsals will be Monday – Thursday evenings, weekend afternoons depending on cast availability.

Synopsis: The Little Mermaid is Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved and well-known fairy tale, which is why it’s not the story our friend, Dolan, is going to tell you today. No, he’s going to tell you the story about a Little Rain Cloud who falls in love with a human. They are not the same story at all, he swears. This playful, quirky, loose adaptation of The Little Mermaid, about a Little Rain Cloud who falls in love with a human, unpacks some personal history about Hans Christian Andersen.

RAIN CLOUD (pronounced like 🌧🌧)

No age / A rain cloud, then a female human

BESSIE (pronounced like 🐄🐄?)

Age unknown / A cow? A sea witch? A human? A dream?

RALMOND (pronounced like “almond” with an R in front)

28, then no age/ A male human, then a rain cloud

MIDI (pronounced like “mini” but with a D in the middle)
