CHOREOGRAPHIC FELLOWSHIP APPLICATIONS

APPLICATIONS DUE JANUARY 5TH, 2024


The Movement Project is excited to announce our first annual CDF | Akron Concert Series set for May 3rd & 4th, 2024 at the beautiful Akron-Summit County Public Library Main Auditorium! Northeast Ohio’s leading dance companies are coming together to present 2 evenings of new works, highlighting the emerging choreographers within our companies. Inlet Dance Theatre, Dancing Wheels Company, Ohio Contemporary Ballet, GroundWorks DanceTheater, and The Movement Project are making a commitment to ensure that dance thrives through the next generation of choreographers, looking internally to support the young artists within our ranks, as well as share the stage with dance makers based in Akron. Fellowship applications for Akron area dance makers go live starting November 13th.

Choreographic Fellows will receive rehearsal space, marketing support, mentorship, compensation, and the opportunity to present a new work alongside NE Ohio’s major companies.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES & QUALIFICATIONS

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: We are looking for artists producing work that challenges perspectives, is diverse in thought/action and is reflective of themselves and people in their community. We encourage artists to submit proposed work that is challenging, explores complex topics, is relevant, and shows a strong understanding of dance composition.

WHO CAN APPLY:

  • Northeast Ohio artists who live, work, or have a strong connection to the city of Akron. (individuals/companies/collectives welcome to apply)

  • Artists at all stages of their career (including college/undergraduate artists)

    • Must be 18 years or older

    • All cast participants must be 18 years or older, no exceptions.

    • Choreographic Fellows must reside & work within Northeast Ohio, as their fellowship includes free rehearsal space at the National Center for Choreography-Akron.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENT: Description of proposed work you would like to create as a choreographic fellow and 3 samples of recent choreographic works. (Accepting small and large group works (2 or more cast members)

HOW WE SELECT WORKS: Fellowship applications are reviewed by the Cleveland Dance Fest Advisory Board, which includes members of The Movement Project and prominent dance artists in the northeast Ohio dance community. TMP is dedicated to providing an adjudication process that focuses on diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility. The individuals of our board represent a wide range of communities, demographics and cultures.

WHEN SELECTIONS ARE MADE: Artists will be notified by January 15th, 2024 on their application status.
