Actor Stef Tovar, seen on screen in CONTAGION, WIDOWS, PROVEN INNOCENT, THE CHI, CHICAGO MED and more teaches you the technical language of on-camera acting.

His technique, “THE MAP”, which will be available through Applause Books this fall, gives you a practical, step by step technique on how to audition for, and book on-camera acting jobs.

You can be an amazing actor—but if you don’t understand the language of on-camera, your audition simply won’t translate.

Told from the prospective of the “Day Player” who has shared the screen with Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Dillon, Colin Farrell and others, Stef gives you a working actor’s perspective–with over 25 years in the business. 

Stef is a professional on-camera acting coach with over 20 years experience in the industry. Stef has been on both sides of the camera in Los Angeles and Chicago and has worked extensively in commercials, television, film and theatre. His coaching clients have been seen on television shows such as Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Chicago Med, The Chi, NeXt, APB, The Bold Type and Orange is the New Black. Stef also coached Che “Rhymefest” Smith in first film role: the Emilio Estevez directed film The Public (Filmed in Cincinnati).
A book of his technique, The Map: An Actor’s Guide to On-Camera Acting, will be published by Applause Books and available in Fall of 2021.

His personal on screen credits include Widows; (with Colin Farrell) directed by Steve McQueen; Kenny in Employee of the Month directed by Mitch Rouse (with Matt Dillon, Steve Zahn and Christina Applegate), which premiered at Sundance in 2004; Dan in the award winning The Gymnast and the sequel out now on Amazon Prime, The Aerialist, directed by Ned Farr and Contagion, directed by Steven Soderbergh, giving some very bad news to Matt Damon as Dr. Arrington. On television, Stef was seen as Daniel Schwartz the premiere season of Chicago Fire as well as Boss, the 2018 season finale of Empire; as Bob Callaway on Proven Innocent for CBS, “White Donor” on Showtime’s The Chi and as Elliot Meyers on NBC’s Chicago Med. Stef is represented by Stewart Talent in Chicago, and Spire Artists Management in Los Angeles.
