in Sondheim’s beloved musical theatre tribute to fairy tales

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OHIO – Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute continues its 2016 summer season of hits with the acclaimed musical INTO THE WOODS, a modern adaptation of classic Brothers Grimm fairy tales by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, presented at Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, from July 29 to August 7.

Lapine and Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together with an epic fairy tale about wishes, family and the choices we make.  The TONY Award-winning book and score are enchanting and moving, and were the basis for the hit movie starring Meryl Streep.

The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King's Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays, July 29 & 30 and August 5 & 6 at 7:30 pm; and Sundays July 31 and August 7 at 2:00 PM.

The show is presented at the Hathaway Brown School, 19600 North Park Blvd., Shaker Heights, Ohio 44122.  Tickets are $11-15 and can be purchased online at www.hb.edu/tickets, by calling 216-932-4214 x7270 or at the door (if available) the day of the performance.

Directed by Fred Sternfeld, INTO THE WOODS will also feature musical direction by John Krol, choreography by Bebe Weinberg Katz
