The Department of Theatre and Dance at Baldwin Wallace University
presents Two Plays for Dancers by William Butler Yeats, directed by Sara Whale with choreography by James Schlemmer, Bre Pacek, Mawusi
Nenonene and Lauren Tidmore.
This workshop production is a contemporary, re-imagining of two of
W. B. Yeat’s short theatrical works. Written in response to Yeat’s introduction
to Noh Theatre, At The Hawks Well (1916)
and The Only Jealousy of Emer (1922) serve
as bookended snapshots of the life of Cuchulain, the great hero of Irish
legend. One play examines the reckless abandon of youth, the other shows the power
and strength found in hope. The poetic language is embellished with stylized movement
to enhance the symbolist imagery of the works.
