Casting Call: Voice Actors for Audiobook Narration

Description: Radio on the Lake Theatre is seeking two skilled voice actors to narrate "Dreams of Drowning''; an upcoming audio book production. This work of magical realism by Patricia Averbach transports listeners between two distinct timelines, where lives are shaped by political conflict, tragedy, and love that transcends time. As the story unfolds, listeners will be immersed in the intertwining journeys of Amy, a troubled American ex-pat living in 1973 Toronto, and Jacob, a retired archaeologist navigating loss and discovery in 1993.

Project Details/Timeline: Recording will begin April 2024, exact dates to be determined depending on production team and artist availability. Recording will take place at the Radio on the Lake Theatre recording studio. Artists will not need to do any audio editing in this process. 

Roles:

• Amy (Female Narrator): Age range 25-35. American (originally from Rochester, NY). Amy is a complex character, haunted by her twin sister's death and grappling with secrets from her past. The ideal voice actor will convey Amy's strength, vulnerability, and the sense of mystery that surrounds her.

• Jacob (Male Narrator): Age range 70-80. British; from England, although he’s lived in Canada for nearly fifty years. He’s educated but not upper-class. Jacob is a wise yet introspective character, confronting his own mortality while embarking on a journey of unexpected discovery. The ideal voice actor will capture Jacob's resilience, wisdom, and the emotional depth of his experiences.
