Auditions for PROOF at CLAGUE PLAYHOUSE October 20 & 21,
2015 A drama by David Auburn
Directed by Anne McEvoy
2 Males
2 Females
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play, “Proof” is the
story of Catherine, a troubled young woman who has spent years caring for
her brilliant yet mentally unstable father. Now, upon his death, she seeks
to find authorship of a landmark mathematical proof discovered among his
papers. But the question remains – how much of her father’s genius has she
inherited, and how much of his madness?
Show dates: January 15 – February 7, 2016
Rehearsals begin November 19th. (Starting early to allow for some time off
at the holidays.) Clague Playhouse, 1371 Clague Road, Westlake, OH 44145
Please come prepared with a short monologue (2 minutes max.) and
be prepared to read from the script. Headshots and resumes are
always welcome and most helpful. There will be callbacks only if
necessary.
All auditions begin at 7:30 pm, unless otherwise noted.
No appointment is required.
Auditioners will be asked to do cold readings from the script.
Perusal scripts for all shows are available at the Clague Playhouse Box
Office for a $10 refundable deposit. Box Office hours are Wed.-Sat.
from 1-6 PM, 440-331-0403.
Characters:
Catherine (25-ish): A complex young woman who inherited much of
her father’s mathematical genius, and possibly, she fears, his
“instability” as well; she gave up her life and schooling to take care of
her father until his recent death.
Robert (50’s – 60’s): Catherine’s father. A recently
deceased mathematician praised for his groundbreaking work in his youth,
but whose later years were plagued by delusional mental illness; he
is seen in Catherine’s imagination and in flashbacks.
Claire (late 20’s): Catherine’s older sister, a
practical and business-minded woman who has been comfortably successful in
her work and relationships. She left Robert and Catherine behind,
distancing herself from the run-down family home of her youth to make a
new life for herself in New York City.
Harold (Hal) Dobbs (late 20’s): One of Robert’s last Ph.D. students during
the one year his idol and mentor’s illness went into remission, at least
enabling Robert to teach, if not continue his own creative mathematical
work.

BALDWIN WALLACE UNIVERSITY Presents
THE TWO NOBLE KINSMEN
By William Shakespeare & John Fletcher
Directed by Adam Heffernan
Based on Chaucer's "A Knight's Tale," this neglected masterpiece of the Jacobean stage matches the young theatrical powers of Fletcher with the last words Shakespeare ever wrote for the theatre. With a tale drawn from the relationship between Venus and Mars, Shakespeare returns to themes explored much earlier in his career to create a rich drama of obsessive love.

Cleveland Play House’s
‘Crucible’ a heavyweight contender
Bob Abelman

Critics
In
1692, the farmer Giles Corey was
accused of witchcraft along with his wife and
other townspeople in Salem, Massachusetts. After his arrest, Corey refused to plead
guilty to save his life and refused to honor the proceedings by declaring his
innocence.
And so Corey was subjected to a
public pressing, where a board was laid across his naked body and heavy stones
were placed upon it to coerce a confession. In a remarkable final act of
defiance, the elderly Corey cried out and demanded “more
weight.”
In the Cleveland Play House’s powerful and thoroughly engaging
production of Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” – a production occurring more than 60 years after it was
last performed on a CPH stage – it’s as if director Laura Kepley shouted “more weight” to those
under her charge in an effort to make this play not only relevant but extremely
resonant.

Hello,
I'm a local actor looking for a working actress to team up with, on a
scene study I am doing. We would film the scene and possibly work
together on other scenes in the future. I'm hoping to find an ongoing
partner (or possibly 2) to work with on a regular basis. Please send me
any details about your acting experience and head shots/samples of your
work if possible. Please be at least 18 years old and let me know what
side of town you are on and your preferences for where and how you would
like to work.
