Baldwin Wallace University’s
Conservatory of Performing Arts is seeking 1-2 Scenic Artists for our Spring production of Bonnets. This position has the potential to reoccur twice in the Fall and twice in the Spring for subsequent production seasons. The Scenic Artist is responsible for the texturing and painting of scenery under the direction of the Scenic Designer / Paint Shop Manager and Technical Director. The Scenic Artist will execute scenic art in collaboration with the designer, based on paint elevations and technical drawings. This position will also interact with BW
undergraduate students, with the opportunity to lead them on projects or serve as
a mentor.
Employment Dates and
Times:
Exact dates are TBD, but are expected to range from mid March to April 17th.
The paint shop is open Monday-Friday, 1-5pm. Given the applicant's schedule and availability, we may be able to open the space for you in the mornings.
This position has the
potential to renew for subsequent
production seasons.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
- Texture and paint scenic elements according to the Scenic Designer's renderings and elevations in collaboration with the Scenic Designer / Paint Shop Manager.
- Read
and execute paint elevations.
- Match and mix paint.
- Test and create samples as needed.
- Maintain
a clean and safe workplace.
- Follow
Health and Safety protocols.
Qualifications:
- 1+
years of professional or grad-level scenic art experience
- Strong understanding of paint behaviors and color theory.
- Able to
work with students safely, effectively, and positively.
- Able to
climb ladders and scaffolding to work at heights when necessary.
- Self-motivated, time management skills, and effective problem-solving abilities.
Ideal Qualifications:
- Interest in experimenting with alternative methods and materials
- Eager
to educate and mentor undergraduate students
- Experience with graffiti and spray paint is a plus!
