Reports to: Prop Shop Supervisor

Salary range: $15.50 - $16.50 / hour

Cleveland Play House (CPH) is seeking a Prop Artisan to join the production team for the 2022-2023 season.

Responsibilities include:

• Creating, repairing, and altering a wide range of props including but not limited to upholstery, painting, paper props, small electronics, foliage creations, and multi-material projects
• Ability to build props from draftings, working drawings, and research images. Including making material lists, and identifying suitable methods and materials for the project
• Shopping for a wide range of items, both online and in local stores
• Maintaining the prop shops soft goods and craft areas, managing material supplies
• Collaborating with the Prop Shop Supervisor to create build plans for complicated projects
• Packing vehicles, transporting props, and loading props in and out of the rehearsal hall and theatre spaces
• Working as a team with the other members of the prop shop, and helping out with other prop projects as needed
• Participation in Anti-Racism committees, trainings, or conversations

Desired experience and skills include:

• General proficiency in a wide range of skills sets, including but not limited to sewing and upholstery, molding and casting, painting and staining, multi-material crafting, electronics and wiring, and Photoshop or a similar program
• Ability to lift heavy furniture, work on ladders, and in powered lifts. Comfort with working at heights
• Ability to be an independent worker and problem solver
• Ability to collaborate and communicate with other members of the production team
• Familiarity with other skills such as furniture construction and metal fabrication a plus
• Ability to, or willingness to learn to drive and dock a 14' box truck
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with ever-changing priorities, while balancing quality with deadlines

This position will primarily work in collaboration with other members of the CPH Prop Shop.

Work Schedule:

Shop hours are 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Occasional evening or weekend overtime may be required.
