Playmakers Youth Theatre in Beachwood is seeking a technical director for the rest of this summer as well as our year round program. Job description is below. Very accommodating of other theatre work and projects. Flex hours and benefits!!
Responsible for designs and technical aspects of productions/events sponsored by Playmakers, including construction, installation, and overall completion of scenery, lighting, sound, properties, special effects required for each production.
Order material as needed
Plan budget with Director of Youth Theatre
Responsible for:
Maintaining all equipment and materials
Arranging for equipment rentals
Locating and securing backstage crews (for construction, installation, run crew, and strike)
Attend and assist during all production meetings
Attend and assist during dry tech, wet tech or full tech, and tech week rehearsals
Strike shows following the last performance of each production
Teach as needed in Performing Arts Camp
Where rentals and other special events are not sponsored by Playmakers or Performing Arts Camp, the Production Director’s responsibilities are to the facility and its equipment. He/she shall not be expected to design or make provisions for these events, which may negatively impact upcoming sponsored scheduled productions and events.
Consult with Playmakers Director in developing long range and short range plans, seasons, and maintaining production values
BFA in Technical Direction or Scenic Design with at least 5 years of experience.
MFA preferred
Ability to work well with others
Multi-tasking
Work within budget and production deadlines
Strong technical expertise and problem solving ability
Design experience in all areas of technical theatre (sound, lighting, props)
Welding, building, painting skills
Teaching experience
Past experience in light design, sound, knowledge of tools, techniques used to live entertainment, specifically at this facility
Proven electrical ability
Ability to read/translate ground plans and blueprints
Proficiency in scenic painting
Team skills – cooperation, creativity, good humor
Flexibility with schedules and tasks
Ability to communication effectively and patiently with representatives from other JCC departments
