Chitra is a Pittsburgh native (by way of Calcutta, India), and has trained, taught, and performed in the DMV for over 12 years. She danced with the award-winning Culture Shock DC Dance troupe and DCypher, performing locally and nationally, including in Los Angeles and New York. Chitra's dance foundation began with her training in Bharathanatyam, an Indian Classical Dance form, and she studied this art under the nationally and internationally renowned instructor, Jaya Mani, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Chitra takes deep pride in her work with young people in the DMV. She has taught and mentored for various DC-based institutions including M.O.M.I.E, City Dance Center, and Sitar Arts Center.
Most recently, Chitra has focused on developing and refining her "fusion style" via Bollywood Fusion, bringing together core foundations of urban dance styles and South Asian styles. In 2016, Chitra moved to Cleveland and currently works with a group of dancers from IAD (I Am Dance), a collective of artists from NE Ohio. She is excited to continue sharing her love of dance with the world.
