Murderous comedy is afoot this fall at Chagrin Valley Little Theatre with back-to-back mystery spoofs

Subheading:
REALITY IS A KILLER and BASKERVILLE: A SHERLOCK HOLMES MYSTERY

CHAGRIN FALLS, OH - Chagrin Valley Little Theatre is up to something funny this fall at its Main Stage, 40 River St. in Chagrin Falls. On the heels of its annual MURDER BY THE FALLS event (September 8 & 9), CVLT will present Ken Ludwig's comedy BASKERVILLE: A SHERLOCK HOLMES MYSTERY (September 22 - October 1).

First up is Murder by the Falls, which begins at 6:30 PM on Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9. Teams of theater-goers will be sworn in as deputies and will attempt to solve this year's original mystery, REALITY IS A KILLER. This spoof, written by Eric Oswald, centers on "The Real Housewives Of Chagrin Falls" (Tiffany, Kiffany, Biffany, Shiffany, Miffany, and Jane) as they plan a party that's just to die for. And then someone does! The plot continues to twist as Reality TV blurs into real-life-reality… or at least a hilarious theatrical version of it.

Murder by the Falls is CVLT's major annual fundraiser and always a very popular ticket. The event includes appetizers, a cash bar, the live performance, and a boxed dinner catered by Trifles. At intermission, participants will walk about the Chagrin Falls business district seeking clues hidden in the shop windows and interviewing characters on the street for more details. Prizes for correctly identifying the killer include passes to CVLT's 88th Season and other items. Tickets are $75 (50% tax deductible). Call the Box Office at (440) 247-8955 to reserve or visit www.CVLT.org for information.

A couple of weeks later, CVLT will begin its 88th Season with Ken Ludwig's fast-paced comedy, BASKERVILLE: A SHERLOCK HOLMES MYSTERY. Performances are at 8 PM Fridays and Saturdays, Sept. 22, 23, 29, and 30, with matinees at 2 PM Sundays, Sept. 24 and Oct. 1. Ludwig's farce, set in Victorian England, stars Eric Oswald as Sherlock Holmes, with Don Bernardo as Dr. Watson. Three additional actors, John Peters, Christine Wright, and Seth Alexander, play the other multiple characters with elaborate costume changes, disguises, and silly accents to match.

"We have six dressers for only three actors, if that gives you an idea of the amount of costume changes in this play," director Michael J. Rogan said. "It's a parody of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous novel The Hound of the Baskervilles. In the book, the male heirs of the Baskerville line are being dispatched one by one. To find the killer, the detective team of Holmes and Watson must brave the desolate moors." Also making an appearance in the play is "Ghost," a live dog who portrays the titular hound, as well as a mechanical rabbit.

Tickets to BASKERVILLE are $18 regular admission and $14 for seniors and students. The play is suitable for all ages. Contact the Box Office at CVLT.org or (440) 247-8955.
