Act the Song

Ages 12 and up

March 21 10 am to 3 pm

Learn audition skills for the singing actor: how to choose a song, prepare resume/head shot, enter the audition room, greet auditors, speak with the accompanist, transition in and out of song, exit gracefully and more. Bring your own sheet music or options will be provided.

 

Intro to Improv

Ages 10 and up

March 22 9 am to noon

Have a blast diving into the wacky world of improvisation! This half day workshop teaches students basic skills needed to be successful in improvisation through fun games! Prepare to laugh...A LOT! A terrific class on its own or a great foundation for Advanced Improv.

 

Advanced Improv

Ages 10 and up

Build on Intro to Improv and take improvisation to the next level. The last 30 minutes of class will feature an Improv Show that parents are welcome to attend.

 

Shakespeare Soliloquies

Ages 10 and up

Enter the world of Shakespeare’s monologues and learn how to perform them for stage and audition. Students will receive individualized coaching and leave with a monologue they can use for audition. The workshop will end in a 30 minute performance of what the students have learned.

 

Makeup’s Many Faces

Ages 10 and up

Learn stage makeup basics and explore more complicated applications such as old age, fantasy, and wound makeup. Students will get to see their works of art on the big stage! Make up will be provided.

 

Master Audition Workshop

Ages 10 and up

March 24  10 am to 3 pm

This intensive all-day workshop will teach students how to prepare for and perform a successful presentation of talent culminating in a mock try-out compete with cold readings, monologues, and a dance audition.

 

Meet the Instructors

Deborah Cluts spent four years as an Actor Teacher with Great Lakes Theater where she taught Shakespeare's works to schools throughout the greater Cleveland area. She has also directed at several community theatres in northeast Ohio. For the past two years Deborah has served as the artistic director for the Children’s Summer Workshops at ACT. She currently plays Tuppence in the touring production of The Secret Adversary with Great Lakes Theater.

 

John Krol brings professional music and theatre experience from working with area schools and community theatres as well as vocal coaching for music theatre students at his own studio. Krol, music director for ACT’s Rent and Into the Woods Jr, has also served as music director for Beck Center for the Arts, Fairmount Performing Arts Center, and Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute. His educational credentials include a bachelors degree in music and theatre from the University of Detroit, a masters degree in music and composition from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and a masters degree in conducting from Southern Methodist University.
