Experts in a Dying Field, a new play by Jonathon Morgan and produced by Mindy Herman for Cleveland PUBLIC Theatre’s 2025 Test Flight series, is holding auditions on December 30.

About the play: Experts in a Dying Field is about making friends, being fungi, and being fun guys. It’s interactive, a little weird, and ends with a sing-a-long of Queen’s 1978 immortal classic, Fat Bottomed Girls. It will be a productive use of your time. It’s like your favorite Liz Phair song on repeat, or a Tom Waits poem, or the recaps Dennis Manoloff does for Cleveland Magazine after Browns games. It’s like a Nan Goldin photo, being lost in thought, staring out the window while you’re riding the Red Line, or the best sweater you ever found at Unique Thrift before it closed. Remember when you fell in love drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes all night at My Friends? Me too. It’s like that.

We are looking to cast 3-4 non-AEA actors of any age and gender.

Time: Anytime between 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM

Location: Brownhoist Building, 4403 St Clair Ave, Cleveland

Requirements: Auditions will consist of readings from the script

Production Team: Jonathon Morgan is a director and playwright who produced new theater in Liverpool, London, New York, and Austin before coming home to Cleveland in 2023, where he is a co-producer of Micro Theater. Mindy Herman is director of Cleveland Public Theatre's Dark Room, a co-producer of Micro Theater, and has been making theater in Cleveland as a producer, director, performer, and stage manager for the past 25 years.

Production Dates: Rehearsals will be held on weeknights (some weekend afternoons are possible) in January and February with performances February 13th-15th at CPT.

You will then receive a confirmation email with your scheduled 30-minute audition window and a copy of the sides.
