Ramón Oller Returns for Cleveland Ballet’s Newest Work:

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

CLEVELAND, OH February 18 , 2017— Cleveland Ballet is pleased to announce that award-winning choreographer Ramón Oller returned to Cleveland this week to start rehearsals for their newest work, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. To quote Steve Sucato’s article published May 20th, 2016: ‘For Gladisa Guadalupe’s new Cleveland Ballet, the decision to hire Spanish choreographer Ramón Oller to create its very first story ballet was genius….the world premiere of Oller’s re-envisioned Coppélia, was just what Cleveland’s newest resident ballet company needed to advanced its goals of becoming a force on the local dance scene and beyond.’

Cleveland Ballet commissioned Oller to create a new version of this classic story. The story based on William Shakespeare’s comedy is about a night in which supernatural effects, fairies, romantic misadventures and fantasy characters intertwine between imagination and reality. Just as Oller was able to breathe new life into a classic story with Coppélia, we are looking forward to his new take on this old tale. The new work will be premiered on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Playhouse Square’s Ohio Theatre.

ABOUT CLEVELAND BALLET

In 2014 a group of dedicated volunteers and artists reconnected to build on the artistic legacy of the Cleveland San Jose Ballet and form Cleveland Ballet. Under the artistic leadership and vision of Gladisa Guadalupe, Cleveland has the opportunity to welcome a professional and resident dance company back to the stage. Cleveland Ballet marked its return to the Cleveland arts scene with the artistically and financially successful October 2015 production, Past. Present. Future. This debut production was presented to a nearly sold-out audience and exemplified Cleveland Ballet’s collaborative spirit, and the community support demonstrates that a passion for professional ballet exists in Cleveland. The world premiere production of Coppélia, choreographed by the acclaimed artist Ramón Oller, concluded the inaugural season.
