On January 27, 2017 A Celebration of Dance & Music Returns to the Hanna Theatre
CLEVELAND, OH November 3—Cleveland Ballet’s second season opened with a spectacular performance showcasing the resident company, a host of virtuoso musicians, and the future of classical ballet in Cleveland. The response to A Celebration of Dance and Music, which premiered October 11, 2016 at the Ohio Theatre proved so strong, Cleveland Ballet will remount the entire evening at the Hanna Theatre on January 27, 2017. This evening includes a program of original, dances that enhance Cleveland Ballet’s quickly growing repertoire. Artistic Director and founder Gladisa Guadalupe conceived the shape of the program and choreographed most of the dances. Guest choreographer Ramón Thielen choreographed one of the evening’s show-stopping dances titled The Cycle of My Love.
Guadalupe’s unique vision for this performance and the company’s future ballets is to have the musicians on stage with the dancers. “I want the musicians to be a part of the dance,” says Guadalupe, “I want them out of the pit and on the stage. Violinists, pianists, soloists—any musician on stage performing with the dancers and enhancing the dance.”
For A Celebration of Dance & Music, internationally acclaimed soloist Michael Urusov sings Albinoni’s Amore Perduto and Lara’s Granada. Ralitsa Georgieva Smith, a member of the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) leads a group of musicians who play music by Handel, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Villodo and others.

ABOUT CLEVELAND BALLET
In 2014 a group of dedicated volunteers and artists reconnected to build on the artistic legacy of the Cleveland San Jose Ballet and formed Cleveland Ballet. Under the artistic leadership and vision of Gladisa Guadalupe, Cleveland has the opportunity to welcome a professional and resident dance company back to the stage. Cleveland Ballet marked its return to the Cleveland arts scene with the artistically and financially successful October 2015 production, Past. Present. Future, a production that featured traditional and innovative ballet performed in collaboration with Neos Dance Theatre of Mansfield, Ohio. The collaboration addresses an important Cleveland Ballet tenant, to create artistic partnerships with the area’s leading cultural organizations. This debut production was presented to a nearly sold-out audience and exemplified Cleveland Ballet’s collaborative spirit, and the community support demonstrates that a passion for professional ballet exists in Cleveland. The world premiere production of Coppélia, choreographed by the acclaimed choreographer Ramón Oller, concluded the inaugural season. Cleveland Ballet has simultaneously established a number of exciting education and outreach programs such as our collaboration with Bedford and Maple Heights School Districts and The Cleveland Orchestra’s Family Concert series.
