We feature the wind instruments of the orchestra on this
delightful program of familiar music from operas by Rossini and Bizet
(Overture to The Italian Girl in Algiers and Suite from Carmen), and music
that should be more well-known, the Serenade for Winds by Arthur Bird, one
of the leading American composers at the end of the nineteenth century, and
Seascape, an impressionistic piece for winds by Ruth Gipps, the leading
English woman composer of the mid twentieth century.
