Urinetown: The Musical

Opens June 23, 2023

Aurora Community Theatre concludes its 63rd season with Urinetown: The Musical, the final show of the 2022-2023 season.

Founded in 1959, ACT has earned the admiration of our patrons and the reputation of presenting fine community theatre. Many factors have helped build this reputation. The philosophy of ACT entails respect for the individual, willing cooperation of all involved and a striving for excellence.  

You might think Urinetown: The Musical sounds unappealing, but don’t let the title fool you.  This musical won Tony Awards for its direction, book, music and lyrics when it first ran on Broadway in 2002, and the New York Times called it, “a great musical-extraordinary, hilarious, and entirely original.” It will be all that and more when presented this summer by the talented cast and crew at ACT.

The story is set in a city where a 20-year drought has created a terrible water shortage, forcing the citizens to pay to…pee. The social commentary in its off-beat plot is certainly relevant today, as it satirizes capitalism, bureaucracy, and corporate greed. Indeed, Urinetown: The Musical is the perfect mix of sophisticated, dark humor and fun, wacky music and characters. 

Director and Choreographer Marc C. Howard leads the creative team with D. Keith Stiver Music Director, Katie Hintze producer, and Ann Nyenhuis Technical Director/Stage Manager. 

The talented cast of actors includes Alexcia Ambroz, Brandon Anders, Ronald E. Aulet, George Bailey, Alessia Carrossellia, Craig Conrad, Matthew Harrington, McKenna Hassel, Elaija Houpt, Shelby Houpt, Patrick Jalbert, Jack Jennemann, Bob Maddox, Melanie Moore, James Newton, Peggy Newton, Jessie Pollack, and Louis Schwartz.

Aurora Community Theatre announces their 64th season which includes Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None Oct 27-Nov 18, 2023, Arsenic & Old Lace Jan 26-Feb 17, 2024, Gypsy Apr 26-May 18, 2024, and Hair Jun 21-Jul 13, 2024. 

Tickets will go on sale later this year.
