Western Reserve Playhouse auditions for

“BLITHE SPIRIT”

Synopsis: 

First produced in 1941 this much-revived classic “improbable farce” from the playwright of Private Lives and Hay Fever offers up fussy, cantankerous novelist Charles Condomine. After his first wife, Elvira, died, Charles married Ruth, and they appear to live a pleasant, if uneventful and conventional, life. Charles is writing The Unseen, a book about spiritualism and invites Madame Arcati, a medium who live nearby to join them and their friends, the Bradmans, for a séance, so that he can acquire the suitable “local color” an author needs. As (worldly and un-) personalities clash, Ruth, and the dead Elvira, haunt the hapless Charles into perpetuity.

Audition Dates: Friday October 4th 530pm -730pm and Saturday October 5th  1pm -4pm

Callbacks:  Sunday October 6th 12pm -3pm

Rehearsals: Tentatively begin December 2nd and continue Sunday thru Thursday 6:30 to 9:30PM Saturday rehearsals TBD by production team if necessary.

Performances: January 24th - February 8th - Fridays and Saturdays @ 8pm (one Sunday performance February 2nd @ 2pm)

Audition Requirements:

• Please arrive 10 minutes before your audition time slot to fill out required information and receive sides.

• Auditions will take approximately 10 min.

• Please prepare two short contrasting speeches that try not to exceed 3 min. overall 

• If you do not have a prepared piece you will be given one from the play

• For Callbacks, a schedule will be sent out via email, the evening of Saturday October 5th actors will be asked to stay to read scenes with other perspective actors.

• Please bring all known conflicts to the auditions.

• Please bring, if available, headshots and resumes. (supplied material may not be returned)

• Prospective cast, under the age of 18, will need to have a guardian attend the audition.

Casting:

ALL roles are open to all ethnicities. No equity contracts at this time.

Roles Available:

EDITH (18 +/ Female): The maid, moves too fast for her own good, with a greater psychic reach than one might think

RUTH CONDOMINE (30s +/ Female): Charles’ current wife. Mostly alive

CHARLES CONDOMINE (30s + Male): a fussy, cantankerous novelist initially interested in mocking the idea of psychical research.

MADAME ARCATI (40s +/ Female): A local medium, some minor past successes and major love for the other world

ELVYRA CONDOMINE (Mid 20s +/ Female): Charles’ first wife. Entirely dead. 

DOCTOR BRADMAN (30s +/ Male): Local Doctor, longtime friend of the Condomines

MRS. BRADMAN (30s +/ Female): His wife, longtime friend of the Condomines
