Unruly Grandeur is holding auditions for a pair of short medieval plays that will travel to Toronto, Canada, for a one-day festival. We are taking a troupe of professional non-equity Cleveland actors to participate in York Plays 2025, an international, collaborative effort to stage all fifty plays of the York Corpus Christi plays in a single day hosted by the University of Toronto.
Unruly Grandeur will be producing Joseph’s Trouble about Mary, a poignant domestic comedy about the importance of trusting women, and The Trial Before Herod, a dark satire showing steadfastness in the face of a corrupt political system. We see an opportunity to have a conversation through these plays about violence—in particular, violence enacted by state and religious hierarchies. Taking a feminist approach, we will ask who is performing this violence, for what reason, and most importantly, who, or what type of bodies, is the violence enacted against?
These productions will rehearse in the spring of 2025, with a local performance for Cleveland audiences.
Travel to Toronto to take part in the international festival June 6-9th, 2025.

The project’s co-producer dramaturg is Liam Thomas Daley.
The two pageants make approximately 35 minutes of material so rehearsal hours will be less than for a traditional two-act play. Participants will be paid a stipend of $350 and receive three days of a $65 per diem. Housing will likely be at the University of Toronto dorms and include breakfast. Participants will be required to have up-to-date COVID vaccinations and a valid passport. Financial assistance will be available to anyone for whom that would create an access barrier.
Auditions will be held on Sunday, October 20 from 4pm-8pm and Monday, October 21 from 6pm - 8pm. Auditions will take place at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 2592 W. 14th Street, Cleveland, OH 44113.
