GATES MILLS PLAYERS ADDS AUDITION DATE FOR “A THURBER

CARNIVAL”

BECAUSE OF WEATHER, THE GATES MILLS PLAYERS IS ADDING AN AUDITION DATE
FOR TUESDAY, JAN 9, 6-8 PM (THIS IS IN ADDITION TO MON, JAN 8, 6 – 8 PM.
Prepared monologues are not required and sides will be provided. (A prepared resume and

headshot would be appreciated.)

Location: Gates Mills Community House, Chagrin River Road next to Gates Mills Town Hall.
ABOUT THE PLAY: “A THURBER CARNIVAL” is a series of comic sketches based on the short
stories, cartoons and fables of James Thurber, one of America’s greatest humorists. Co-written
by Thurber and Cleveland-born actor Burgess Meredith, the 1960 revue won a Tony Award and
has influenced comedy revues from Laugh-In to Second City to Saturday Night Live, as well as
TV series like “My World and Welcome To It” and such movies as “The Secret Life of Walter
Mitty.” Details about the play and James Thurber can be found on www.wikipedia.org.
ROLES: Cast members (listed as 5 men and 4 women) play multiple roles ranging from mid-
twenties to mid-sixties. The revue’s various short sketches offer actors improv/mime ops.
SCHEDULE: Performances are March 2, 3, 4 (matinee), 9, and 10. Cast and script pick-up will
be announced Jan 11 with the first full read-thru Sunday afternoon Jan 14. Rehearsals take
place on subsequent Sunday afternoons, as well as Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings
thru February 17. After February 18, the rehearsal schedule will add evenings to accommodate

tech and dress rehearsals.
