Staging the Problem: A play directing workshop with August Scarpelli (01/09/21 -3/06/21 Saturdays 3pm-5pm).
Plays are full of problems, from pitching ideas to theatres, finding a cast, working with delicate content or specific production demands. One of our jobs, as directors, is to understand and solve those problems. In this workshop, we will explore, in-depth, both the fundamentals of play directing (dramaturgy, expressing your ideas to theatre managers, production designers, and actors, casting, organizing, and executing rehearsals), some of theatre history’s most problematic plays, and the infinite possibilities of the solutions. For students ages 16+; $75 per student.
