===========================================

In this interactive, 2-hour, three-part series, participants will be introduced to Dr. Weems' character-driven method for creating a world for the stage, with an emphasis on the monologue and short play (10-15 minutes) using Weems’ short “A Conversation on an Elevator,” which received a staged reading at Playwrights Local, as well as one or more monologues as examples. You'll be invited to respond to writing prompts and receive constructive feedback in a supportive group setting.

Dr. Mary E. Weems is an accomplished author, poet, playwright, and social/cultural foundations scholar. Her work is inspired by the human condition and by what is happening to Black people in America around issues of race, gender, and class. To date, Weems has authored or edited thirteen books and her plays and/or excerpts have been published or produced for nearly two decades. Career highlights include receiving a Wick Chapbook award, being nominated for a Pushcart prize and two Ohioana Book award nominations (2008, 2012).
