Taught by actor-educators Joe Pine and Tess Burgler, this workshop will focus on Shakespeare’s world of comedy. Students will explore the vast opportunities for physical and intellectual comedy written into such plays as A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night, Taming of the Shrew, and more! Through improvisation, commedia dell’arte traditions, and text analysis, students will uncover a variety of interpretations for some of Shakespeare’s most famously funny scenes. This two day workshop will focus on using Shakespeare’s words to find opportunities for physical comedy as a way to take his writing off the page and bring it life, proving that funny is funny whether you live in 1600 or 2016. Open to all ages, recommended for 10+.
