Beck Center Auditions for Young Boy in Mothers and Sons.
Beck Center for the Arts announces auditions for a young boy to play the role of Bud in Mothers and Sons, award-winning playwright Terrence McNally's newest play, directed by Sarah May.
Beck Center is proud to open its 2015-16 Studio Theater season with the area premiere of this landmark play: the first Broadway play featuring a same-sex married couple, living happily in New York with their small son. The fireworks begin when they get an unexpected visit from a woman whose son died 20 years earlier of AIDS, and was the former partner of one of the men. She struggles to make sense of her loss and find some kind of closure in this powerful, touching, and often funny play about our changing world.
Bud Ogden-Porter is an energetic, outgoing, and curious "almost seven" year-old boy who lives in Manhattan with his two Dads. (Young actors, ages 6 to 11, who might look six or seven onstage are encouraged to audition!)
Young actors will be seen on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14 & 15, between 5:00 and 7:00. Boys will be asked to read from the script, improvise a little, and tell a story about a favorite family member, vacation or pet! Please write scottdavidspence@gmail.com to make an appointment.
The production will begin rehearsals around September 9. (The actor playing Bud will not need to attend all rehearsals, and we will try to work around some conflicts.) The play runs from Oct. 9 to Nov. 15, with performances Friday and Saturdays at 8:00, and Sundays at 3:00.
Parents should call Sarah May directly if they have questions at 216-410-1781.
