BEREA, OH – The Department of
Theatre and Dance at Baldwin Wallace University presents fyoo zh en ’20: The
Body Politic of The Beautiful, based
on the research of Dr. Ana de Freitas Boe, directed by Sara Whale, with
choreography by Whale, Lauren Tidmore and Julia Miller.
What is beauty? What color is it, what gender is it, and who
decides who is, or isn’t beautiful?
Inspired by Dr. Ana De Freitas Boe’s dissertation on gender, sexuality,
and race in later 18th century aesthetics, this evening of dance uses
physicality and wit to examine the aesthetic of the human form, the lengths
society goes to find, enhance, and define it, and how things have changed, or
not, in the last two plus centuries.
Talk-back with the Dr. Boe and
the artists directly following Friday evening’s performance.
