Virtual Holiday Boutique

Shaker Arts Council presents a virtual pop-up shop for the holidays supporting local artists. If you are looking for a unique gift, this is the opportunity for you.   The boutique will run November 28 - December 31, 2020.  The boutique gives you the opportunity to browse and contact the artists directly for sales.  Selections will include accessories, ceramics, drawing, jewelry, mixed media, paper goods, painting and photography.

Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) announces a Winter/Spring series of community virtual art classes and webinars.  Community art classes specifically geared to K-12 students begin with a Winter Break Session, Monday - Wednesday, December 21-23 and 28-30, 2020.  Another Mini-Session for youths will be offered Monday and Tuesday, February 15-16, 2021. 

General classes for students of every age will be offered after-school and on weekends during the 2021winter/spring sessions January 17 - March 20 and March 21– May 30.

NEW Acting and Memory Technique

Program Description: This acting course will introduce basic memory techniques which support creativity, character development, and shorten memorization time. Based on modern neuroscience, Memory Acting help actors understand how the brain naturally learns and memorizes. Every actor should have basic memory techniques.

NEW Audition Technique: College & Beyond
Program Description: Have audition material you’d like a second opinion on? Want to get a monologue or song in shape for an upcoming audition? Join Cody Swanson in personal, virtual, and intimate sessions as, together, you create or build upon, strong pieces of text to audition with for college and other needs.

NEW Dynamic Art - Comic Art - Visual Story-telling
Program Description: Sessions for development in dynamic anatomy drawing/ illustration, story-telling thru panel visuals and cinematic placement to project best visual presentation.

INDI Art Zone Virtual Branding Sessions
Program Description: Our INDI Art Zone Virtual Branding Sessions are designed to educate the youth of today on the power of branding in the arts. Our goal with our virtual branding sessions is to inspire the youth to invest in their artistic creations by educating them on how to create small business plans for their artistic development.

NEW Round Trip Flamenco
Program Description: De ida y vuelta is a dance & arts residency designed for K-12 students that brings Hispanic history to life. Students learn and help create a flamenco dance from the "ida y vuelta" (round-trip) family of music, which have influences from Latin America, West Africa, and Spain. Students create their own fan with craft supplies as a prop, and receive worksheets to learn about the history and culture.

Shoes as Art
Program Description: Create a shoe that expresses who you are.  In this workshop, you will create a work of 3-dimensional work of art in the form of a shoe.  Gather materials you can collage that show your interests.  These items can be photos of friends or family, magazine images or drawings; they can include ribbon or fabric or hardware or glitter; things that you can find around your house and that work together to tell a story.  Have a pair of scissors and some newsprint or paper you can stuff in a shoe.  The only purchase you may need to make is for 2 rolls of 2” clear wrapping tape.  Finally, you will need to select your favorite shoe – which I promise will not be harmed in the making of the project!

Building An Online Craft Business Using Etsy
Program Description: Etsy is a popular marketplace for selling handmade goods. Learn to open your own shop and build your online business. Topics include creating compelling listings, finding your target customers, getting found in search, branding, marketing, taking good photos, pricing strategies, and customer service.

Class Piano
Program Description: Class Piano provides students with an exploration of the piano and beginning musical concepts such as high vs. low, piano orientation, steady beat/rhythm patterns and playing/reading music.  This exploratory course is great for students to find out if they might be interested in beginning piano lessons or for students who have already begun piano lessons.  Students will participate in a variety of games and activities in each session.

Chalk Pastel Portraits
Program Description: Chalk Pastel Portraits is a course that teaches students to use chalk pastel to render the likeness of a face. We will study the proportions from different angles of the face and techniques for blending and matching colors of skin tones and textures for hair. Students should have chalk pastels, and a recommended supply list will be provided.

Eurhythmics: Music and Movement
Program Description: Eurhythmics is the study of music through movement, musical games, and kinesthetic learning. This short course will serve as an introduction to experiencing music and rhythm at its core, and practicing using your body as a tool to understand music’s most fascinating secrets.

NEW Intro to Flamenco
Program Description: Looking for an exciting way to get moving in 2021? Why not flamenco! Students will learn the basics of flamenco dance technique and learn a short flamenco dance choreography. Students will learn about the history of flamenco, the culture, and the musical structures that give the dance form.

NEW The Joy of Movement: A Creative Movement Workshop
Program Description: Join Erin & Julia for a workshop that will connect you to the joy of moving! Through guided movement activities, you’ll explore moving with different qualities and body parts. Making Art with Code 
Program Description: Using the Processing Language (a free and open source language based on Java), students will
