The Breen Center for the Performing Arts, a 540 seat semi-professional rental house is seeking a number of Theater Technicians. Early-Career professionals and seasoned Technicians with specialties in Lighting or Audio are especially encouraged to apply. Duties include; load-ins, lighting calls, maintenance calls, and event based design and operation.

 

The usual and customary methods of performing the position’s functions may require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, some climbing, twisting, turning some balancing, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and significant fine motor skills. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 45% walking, and 50% standing. The position is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.

Industry specific skills required to perform specific tasks related to theatrical production. Including ability to program lighting consoles, digital and analogue audio consoles, and industry specific equipment as acquired by The Breen Center for the Performing Arts.

Must be knowledgeable in basic writing, mathematics (including algebra or geometry), reading comprehension and ability to understand written and spoken directions. Specific knowledge based competencies include the ability to understand theatrical and event production from a theoretical or practical perspective.

Must have the ability to schedule activities, meetings and/ or events. Gather, collate, and or/classify data. Ability to consider a number of factors when operating equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances. Work with data using defined but different processes and procedures. Ability to work with a variety of individuals, types of data, and equipment is required. Problem solving skills include ability to individually interpret data and various real-world scenarios to determine the correct path of action. Specific ability based competencies may include the ability to satisfactorily perform the function of the job including performing tasks with limited oversight, and the ability to discern when to seek additional support. Must be able to work a varied schedule to include nights and weekends.

 

This is a non-exempt casual position with 4-hour minimums. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
