Appreciating Photography

Program Description: A survey of creative photography to see how different image makers have used the camera to create meaning throughout the history of the medium.

 NEW Beginning Scene Study
Program Description: Learn to create interesting, three-dimensional characters through script analysis, outside research and inspiration, and collaboration. During week one we will go over some acting fundamentals, then by week two we will jump right into script analysis. The class will culminate in polished, performance-ready scenes that are presented over Zoom.

Building An Online Craft Business Using Etsy
Program Description: Etsy is a popular marketplace for selling handmade goods. Learn to open your own shop and build your online business. Topics include creating compelling listings, finding your target customers, getting found in search, branding, marketing, taking good photos, pricing strategies, and customer service.

Class Piano
Program Description: Class Piano provides students with an exploration of the piano and beginning musical concepts such as high vs. low, piano orientation, steady beat/rhythm patterns and playing/reading music.  This exploratory course is great for students to find out if they might be interested in beginning piano lessons or for students who have already begun piano lessons.  Students will participate in a variety of games and activities in each session.

Chalk Pastel Portraits
Program Description: Chalk Pastel Portraits is a course that teaches students to use chalk pastel to render the likeness of a face. We will study the proportions from different angles of the face and techniques for blending and matching colors of skin tones and textures for hair. Students should have chalk pastels, and a recommended supply list will be provided.

NEW Eurhythmics: Music and Movement
Program Description: Eurhythmics is the study of music through movement, musical games, and kinesthetic learning. This short course will serve as an introduction to experiencing music and rhythm at its core, and practicing using your body as a tool to understand music’s most fascinating secrets.

Handcrafted Paper Art
Program Description: Create a hand-crafted object out of paper, flour, water and decorate!  Paper mache can be used to build masks, wall art, pencil holders, vases, even model animals! We’ll build our frame from newspaper/circulars and small amount of flour paste. The second session we cover our creations in paper mache.  The last day we decorate the dried object using paint or materials from around the house.

NEW How to Create a Graphic Novel
Program Description: Whether you like to write, to illustrate, both or neither (but you’re interested in learning to develo, pwriting and illustration skills), you can produce a mini graphic novel. This class takes a step-by-step approach to creating a graphic novel taking place in each student’s hometown, developing a clear narrative,drawing engaging characters, producing a story-board and formatting the final work.

Program Description: Our INDI Art Zone Virtual Branding Sessions are designed to educate the youth of today on the power of branding in the arts. Our goal with our virtual branding sessions is to inspire the youth to invest in their artistic creations by educating them on how to create small business plans for their artistic development.

Program Description: Create fun and funky postcards or greeting cards using materials easily found at home! Upcycle empty cracker boxes or cereal boxes along with art supplies already you have to make cheerful postcards you can send to your friends, family, and neighbors.

NEW National and International Dialects for the Stage
Program Description: Ever wonder how to Sound like Harry Potter or Tony Soprano?  Join Cody Swanson as he teaches you the ins and outs of dialects from all over the United States or from different parts of the world.  These dialects can be used on-stage or for film work.

Poetry Sandbox
Program Description: In this workshop we will examine and experiment with a variety of poetic forms, tools and goals.  We will write during and between classes, then share and discuss our efforts.  Prior poetry writing is not required, but participants must be interested in putting pen to paper to capture and explore the human experience.

Programming for Artists using Processing
Program Description: Using the Processing Language (a free and open source language based on Java), students will learn the basics of programming as applied to programming graphic images and shapes.Depending on time, we will touch on programming animation of these shapes and graphics.

Shoes as Art
Program Description: Create a shoe that expresses who you are.  In this workshop, you will create a work of 3-dimensional work of art in the form of a shoe.  Gather materials you can collage that show your interests.  These items can be photos of friends or family, magazine images or drawings; they can include ribbon or fabric or hardware or glitter; things that you can find around your house and that work together to tell a story.  Have a pair of scissors and some newsprint or paper you can stuff in a shoe.  The only purchase you may need to make is for 2 rolls of 2” clear wrapping tape.  Finally, you will need to select your favorite shoe – which I promise will not be harmed in the making of the project!
