An original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents.
Characters
GOMEZ ADDAMS (40's to 50's; tenor - Bb to G#)
Of Spanish descent who takes great pride in his family and revels in all it
means to be an “Addams.” Smart, comedic actor short in stature but large in
heart.
UNCLE FESTER (30's to 40's; tenor - C# to C# preferably at belt)
Androgynous family member who serves as the musical’s narrator. Larger than
life, an energetic, joyous, child-like presence. Vaudeville style comedian,
willing to shave his head.
PUGSLEY ADDAMS (teens; tenor - Bb to F#)
Charming, funny, pudgy boy who loves being tortured by his sister. He wants to
ensure he won't lose his sister to her new boyfriend so he takes matters into
his own hands.
LURCH (unknown; bass - Eb to F)
Tall, very tall. The Addams butler, knows all, speaks in moans and groans, but
not a cartoon version of himself. Movement is slow, very slow. Character actor
with large stage presence.
MAL BEINEKE (40's to 50's; tenor - C# to Bb)
Stuffy father of Lucas and exasperated husband to his rhyming wife, Alice.
Everything Gomez is not. At one time was a follower of The Grateful Dead but
has lost that side of himself.
LUCAS BEINEKE (20's; tenor - C# to C#)
The romantic, 'average' young man who has fallen in love with Wednesday Addams
and plans to marry her. Caught in the middle of the two families. Pop voice.
MORTICIA ADDAMS (40's to 50's; alto - G# to Bb)
The real 'head' of the Addams family, as sexy as she is witty. Feels her
husband is hiding something from her and will use any tactic to lure the secret
out. Strong dancer.
WEDNESDAY ADDAMS (20's; soprano - Bb to F)
Sharp, witty, dry humored. When she finds love with a “normal” boy, Lucas her
internal excitement is trying to bust through her cold emotionless exterior.
ALICE
BEINEKE (40's; soprano - G# to G#)
Quirky, often speaks in rhyme. Picture perfect Mother to Lucas, stuck in a dull
marriage with Mal until her wild side breaks free.
GRANDMA ADDAMS (100+; belt - G# to F#)
Feisty 102 year old that is fun and quirky, and has stopped caring what others
think a long time ago. Strong comedic character actress.
THE ANCESTORS (various genders and vocal ranges, ages 16 and older)
Ensemble singer/dancers who serve as a Greek Chorus of sorts bring fun with a
quirky sensibility. Each actor will create an Addams Family Ancestor character
fill out the show and move the story forward. Examples of the Ancestor
characters are Bride, Groom, Stewardess, Saloon Girl, Flapper, Pilgrim,
Conquistador, Caveman, Cavewoman, Soldier, Sailor, etc.
