Talespinner Children’s Theatre is holding auditions for actors ages 18 and up The Toothpaste Millionaire, by David Hansen, a world premiere adaptation of the book by Jean Merrill. Character descriptions and casting requirements listed below. While description of roles may fall on the gender binary, performers of any gender identity may audition for any role. Actors of varying body types and disability statuses are encouraged to audition. 


Rehearsals begin in April, with 3-4 evenings and one weekend day expected weekly. Performances will be May 17-26, with additional school matinees to TBA (will be in place before rehearsals begin) and the possibility of additional performances at the Borderlight Fringe Festival in July. Compensation for the May run of the show will be $400, with additional compensation for those who are able to participate in the Borderlight performances. 

To audition please submit a video that includes you retelling your favorite children’s story (under 3 minutes). Videos, resumes and headshots can be sent to rtwardzik@talespinnercle.org by 5:00 pm on February 27th. Following the video auditions, actors will be notified, and callbacks will be scheduled for 6:30-9:30 pm on March 2nd. If you are interested, but are unavailable on March 2nd, additional dates can be arranged.

Time: 1970-1972
Place: East Cleveland, Ohio

Kate (she/her) plays age 12-13, white: new kid in town, very practical and eager to help
Rufus (he/him) plays age 12-13, Black: always thinking, task oriented, direct
Kate's Dad (he/him) plays age 40-50, white: progressive pastor
Ms. Conti (she/her) plays age 30-40, Black: dedicated math teacher
Hector (he/him) plays age 40-50, Black: working class, excellent manager
Clem (she/her) plays age 12-13, any race or ethnic identity: excited and opinionated and smart

All actors except those who play Kate and Rufus will play other characters; all actors play at least one adolescent character
