Live Bodies for Sale

Playwrights Local is casting for the world premiere production of Live Bodies for Sale, a new play by Cleveland-based author Christopher Johnston. This documentary-style work captures the human trafficking crisis in present-day Ohio, presenting monologues and scenes derived from interviews with real-life survivors, advocates, law enforcement officers, and legal sources. The production will open in November 2019 and will be directed by Terrence Spivey, Scene magazine’s “Best Director” for 2017.


All openings are paid, professional positions compensated on the non-Equity scale.

  • Saturday, June 1: 11:00am - 2:00 pm

  • Callbacks: Monday, June 3: 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

  • Nicole Griffin -- Female, Black, late 30s-early 40s -- attractive and vibrant


  • Lauren Byrd -- Female, White/Native American, mid/late 40s -- looks and acts like she’s had a hard life


  • Shanice Day -- Female, Black, 50s -- a little worn but outgoing and energetic


  • Martina Frantonio -- Female, White, early/mid 60s -- quiet, but well-spoken; attractive, but has been through tough times


  • Tammy Hendricks -- Female, Black, late 20s


  • Detective -- Male, Black, 40s-50s -- straightforward, tall, imposing, former athlete, "just the facts"; honest and committed


  • Prosecutor -- Male, white, 40s-50s -- slender; intelligent, but down to earth with a good, sense of humor; executive-like

Audition Activities

  • Sides from the play (including monologues and scenes; possibly two 3-minute, contrasting monologues)

  • Some movement and possibly improvisation


Notices

  • Participants will not be required to perform high-risk activities as part of the auditions

  • Participants will not be charged to audition

  • Auditions will not be recorded

  • Participants will be notified by the producer if they are called back but not cast

  • All potential participants can decline auditions without fear of losing future invitations
