Audition Information:
INITIAL AUDITIONS: January 5th, 6th 2023 (Thursday and Friday) from 6 pm – 9 pm
Sing
* Prepare two 16-bar music performances that relate to the show’s Musical/Rock/Broadway genre: one up-tempo and one ballad.

Dance
* Dress to move. During our first two evenings of initial auditions, there will be a dance call that will include synchronized steps as well as character movement; both of which are
strong aspects for telling this toxic story with energy and precision.

CALLBACKS: January 7th, 2023 (Saturday) from 11 am – 2 pm
ACTING/CHARACTER CREATION
* Sides will be sent to those who are called back for January 7th. 
Callbacks will include activities relating to sharing scene work and simple character development.

THE SHOW:
A well-meaning earth scientist named Melvin Ferd the Third is determined to
clean up New Jersey’s toxic waste problem, solve global warming, and win the
heart of the prettiest and blindest librarian in town. After being thrown in a
vat of toxic waste by the mayor and her corrupt goons, Melvin becomes a
seven-foot-tall mutant named “Toxie”, who answers Tromaville’s cry for a hero.
An uproarious love story based on the 1984 cult classic film of the same name.

THE CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
Black Dude
Appears as numerous supporting roles, both male and female, such as PROFESSOR KEN, SLUGGO the bully, LITTLE OLD LADY, and SHINEQUA the friend. This role requires being physically versatile with strong dialects, dance, and comedy chops.

Mayor Babs Belgoody / Ma Ferd / Nun
The Mayor is corrupt and scheming. Accepts loads of cash in return for storing the toxic
waste and is set on one day being the governor of New Jersey by any means necessary. Ma Ferd, she’s the no-nonsense but loving mother of Melvin. As the Nun, she’s energetically religious and strict. This role requires being physically versatile with strong dialects, dance, and comedy chops.

Melvin Ferd The Third/Toxic Avenger
Always trying to be the hero, but he isn't very good at it until he is turned into the Toxic
Avenger. Determined to save New Jersey from toxic waste. He is a nerd but prone to bouts of rage in the face of corruption. He’s “unattractive and sensitive”, and ultimately in love with Sarah. A strong legit Broadway voice and presence will be useful for playing this character.

Sarah The Blind Librarian
Blind. The classic heroine. Very sexy and sensual. Always speaks exactly what's on her
mind. An aspiring writer of graphic romance novels. Sarah is a role that especially requires a strong character focus balanced by robust comedic acumen.

White Dude
Appears in numerous roles, both male and female, such as DR. FISHBEIN, BOZO the bully, SAL the cop, and LORENZO the hairdresser. This role requires being physically versatile with strong dialects, dance, and comedy chops.
