Dobama Theatre Announces
Playwrights' GYM New Play Readings Series for 2017

The Playwrights' GYM, Dobama Theatre's playwriting unit, provides local playwrights with the opportunity to workshop new work.
Nine readings of Playwright GYM members' work will be presenting at Dobama Theatre during their 2016/17 Season.
All these readings are FREE and open to the public, with wine and beer available for a special GYM reading price of $1.

All readings begin at 7 pm and are general seating.

Monday, January 23   Voice of the Violin by Stuart Hoffman
When penniless violin teacher Herman is rejected by the love of this life, Helen, he finds himself recruited into a band of local ruffians plotting to overthrow the town. When the gang's leader reveals his primary target as Helen's father, Herman must fight against his newfound loyalties and discover a way to save the town and get the girl. A children's play - with plenty for adults to enjoy.

Approximately 50 minutes with no intermission.


Monday, January 30  The "S" Cycle (Selected Scenes) by Juliette Regnier
The completed cycle consists of four plays and a prologue connecting the harsh landscapes of a 1960's housing project, occupied Paris and a Wyoming hog ranch while introducing us to a 6 year old named Peddle, a Jewish clown, a dead Finnish whore, the Three Wyrd Sisters, and a Muslim mermaid.  All with the same story.

Monday, February 6  Darker and Illuminated by Catie O'Keefe
DARKER finds Max as the new kid at the Industri-Light Bulb factory. But his surrounding are all too familiar...and he's certain he has seen his boss somewhere before. Is he losing his mind, or is this the start of a very sick - and ultimately deadly - game?
ILLUMINATED is a prequel to DARKER. Playwright O'Keefe was drawn to revisit the triad of characters in DARKER and further explore how they arrived in their dream-like and jealousy filled existence.
