Vocal Minority: The Amazing Female Songwriters

Friday & Saturday, August 28 & 29, 2015 | 8:00pm
Cirigliano Studio Theatre
Stocker Arts Center
Lorain County Community College

For more than 100 years, the women who write songs for musicals have typically taken a back seat to the men, but those women are dazzling. Who wrote the words to “Big Spender” and “On the Sunny Side of the Street?” Dorothy Fields. How about “Hey, Look Me Over?” Carolyn Leigh. Or the music and lyrics for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas? Carol Hall. In this show, we’ve got ’em covered from the early 20th-century lyrics of Rida Johnson Young — upstaged by her famous composer-partner, Victor Herbert — all the way up to the music of Jeanine Tesori, this year’s Tony Award winner for Broadway’s Fun Home. Don’t miss an evening of musical theater sisterhood — powerful, romantic, witty and timeless.

Co-hosted by Bill Rudman and Nancy Maier
Featuring Ursula Cataan and Cassie Goldbach
