The touching and laugh-filled Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks, a comedy with music and dance, will play at Akron's Coach House Theatre, November 17 to December 11, 2016.
In this show from playwright Richard Alfieri, a retired widow hires an acerbic former Broadway dancer to come to her St. Petersburg Beach, Florida condo to teach her ballroom dancing.* The two of them couldn't be more different, but the rare, unexpected friendship they forge is the heart of this story. What begins as an antagonistic relationship blossoms into an intimate connection as the two of them share their secrets, fears and joys while dancing the Swing, Tango, Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha-Cha and Contemporary Dance.
The story also addresses the serious issues of ageism and intolerance. *The play contains a small amount of adult language.
The production is directed by Coach House Artistic Director NANCY CATES, and is choreographed by KATIE ZARECKI. The cast features DEDE KLEIN as Lily Harrison, and RYAN ZARECKI as Michael Minetti.
Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks will be presented November 17-December 11. Curtain times are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.
There will be no performance on Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 24).
Dinner or brunch is available to all theatre patrons prior to every performance, at the Akron Woman's City Club next door. (Reservations are required, at 330-762-6261.)
There will be a special $12 preview performance Thursday, November 17 only, at 8 p.m. The official opening night is Friday, November 18. Group rates for holiday gatherings or office celebrations are available.
