Karamu Theatre is proud to open its Arena Theatre season with the exciting new "comedy-drama" Rasheeda  Speaking by Chicago playwright Joel Drake Johnson.  Last season the play won rave reviews Off-Broadway starring Tonya Pinkins and Diane Wiest as two women who are forced to navigate the politics of race and friendship in the workplace.  Pitted against each other by their boss, their relationship spins wildly out of control in this timely dark comedy. The New York Times called it "an exquisitely tense and often cringingly funny portrait of racial paranoia." This play promises to be a "wild ride" and will leave audiences with lots to talk about!

Area director Sarah May returns to Karamu, where she began her directing career many years ago. Recent area productions include Caroline, or Change at Karamu,  Mothers and Sons, Race, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, and The Pitman Painters for The Beck Center, and Thurgood, and The Normal Heart at Ensemble.
