WHAT TO KNOW:
This ancient Greek story centers around Medea, who finds herself cast aside by her husband, the Greek hero Jason. He has decided on a new, politically advantageous marriage to the princess Creusa, daughter of Creon, the king of Corinth. Medea’s rage and grief grows as she learns that she is to be banished, and must leave her sons behind. Fueled by this fire, she hatches a horrific plan to enact revenge upon Jason, and punish him for his ultimate betrayal.

*OUTDOOR Performances: 4 Shows - July 20, 2024 and July 27, 2024 at Western Reserve Playhouse; July 21, 2024 and August 10, 2024 at the Broadview Heights Community Amphitheater (Performances will begin at 4pm each night)
*Rehearsals: Will begin approximately around June 13, 2024. Rehearsals will run Monday-Thursday (evenings) and Sunday (afternoons) based on cast availability. This is intended to be a lighter rehearsal process; we will rehearse 3-4 days a week based on cast availability.

ALL ROLES ARE OPEN to all gender identities, races, ethnicities, body types, ages, and abilities. The genders/ages outlined below are as indicated by the script; however, they do not have to match the performer's actual identity or age, provided you feel confident in portraying the character.
None of these roles are precast.
Available Roles:
Medea: (late 20s-30s) Daughter of Aetes, the king of Colchis. She is a princess and a sorceress, who used her powers to help Jason outsmart her father and steal the Golden Fleece. Having fled her homeland with Jason, the two become exiles and move to Corinth, where they had two sons together. At the start of the play, she is reeling from the news that Jason is divorcing her and marrying Creusa.
Jason: (late 20s-30s) Greek hero, leader of the Argonauts. He was successful in his quest for the Golden Fleece through Medea’s help. Seeking political advantage, however, he decides to divorce her and marry Creon’s daughter, Creusa.
Creon: (30s+) King of Corinth, father of Creusa and future father-in-law to Jason. He banishes Medea, sending off a deadly chain of events.
Nurse: (18+) Medea’s friend and confidant. Caretaker of Medea’s house and her children.
Tutor/Messenger: (18+) Caretaker of Medea’s children and friend of the Nurse.
Aegeus: (20s+) King of Athens and friend to Medea who is visiting Corinth after visiting the Oracle at Delphi.
Greek Chorus: (18+; multiple roles available) Women of Corinth, at times sympathetic to Medea’s cause and at other times opposed to her actions.
