Many special events have been added to Music in the Valley that you won't want to miss:
Instrument Highlights: 15-20 minute talks on a featured instrument followed by a 45 minute to hour open jam. There will be simple instruments available for the public to join in on the fun. These are scheduled for Saturday AND Sunday as follows:
11:30am: Hammered & Appalachian Dulcimer at the Meetinghouse lead by Don Gardner with Paul Kirk (fiddle), Stephen Rapp (banjo), and FolkNet musicians assisting.
1:30pm: Old-Time Fiddle at the Hale House lead by Paul Kirk with Stephen Rapp (banjo) and FolkNet musicians assisting.
3:30pm: Old-Time Banjo at the Gatehouse lead by Stephen Rapp with Paul Kirk (fiddle) and FolkNet musicians assisting.
Old-Time Fiddle Workshop in the Hartwell Room, 2:30pm-3:15pm SUNDAY ONLY.

Master fiddler
Paul Kirk and his Oho Arts Council-sponsored apprentice Melanie Galizio will teach the tune Pretty Little Shoes from Ohio fiddler Ward Jarvis (1894-1982). Rhythmic elements such as bowing patterns and pulse give a distinctive sound to old-time fiddling. Paul and Melanie will explore these elements with you as they teach the tune. Open to all skill levels.

Wine Tasting 101: Good Wine Made Fun! 11am at the Entertainment Tent ($20 tasting kit fee)
Snack & Sip: Cheese & Wine Pairing Class, 1pm at the Entertainment Tent ($22 tasting kit fee)
In addition, there will be period cooking demonstrations, food history highlights (fermentation talks and ice cream making); family-friendly, hands-on activities for all ages, and pop-up collection exhibits on 19th century entertaining.
