“The Best of
Accessible Cleveland” Awards
The
Dancing Wheels Company & School in cooperation with the ADA 25 Committee
will host the “Best of Accessible Cleveland” Luncheon at the InterContinental
Cleveland Hotel on Thursday, July 9, 2015 (12:30 p.m.). This event will celebrate the 25th
anniversary of the Americans with Disability Act and honor three award winners
that have made significant contributions to improving the quality of life for
individuals with disabilities.
Nominations are being accepted until 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2015 for
the following Awards:
Champion For
Inclusion Award
This
award will be given to an individual within an organization who is a champion
for disability inclusion and has demonstrated leadership in creating full and
equal access.
Submission
Requirements
Submit
an essay of up to 2,600 characters on how the nominee’s leadership changed the
lives of individuals with disabilities through their own leadership skills. Please include some of the following
transformational characteristics:
- How are they
identified as a Champion of Change?
- How did they deal
with the complexity and challenges of creating a full and equal access
environment?
- What visionary
results occurred through their efforts?
- How have their
efforts changed the lives of youth and adults with disabilities?
Arts Access Award
This
award will be given to an organization that has gone above and beyond in
providing full and equal access to patrons and artists within the visual or
performing arts.
Submission Requirements
Submit
an essay of up to 2,600 characters on how the organization created a fully and
equal experience to the arts for individuals with disabilities. Please include some of the following
transformational characteristics:
- How did the
organization engage the disability community in the creation and, or
participation in programming or venue design?
- How did the
organization deal with the complexity and challenges of creating a full and
equal access environment?
- How have their
efforts impacted the arts experience for individuals with disabilities?
Supporting Materials
- Up to three published
articles in a PDF format, that demonstrate the impact this organization had on
changing the perception of individuals participating in the arts, may be
submitted.
- One video up to five
minutes posted on YouTube or Vimeo, that shows individuals with disabilities
participating in the arts, may be submitted.
Best of Accessible
Cleveland
This
award is given to an organization or company that exemplifies a fully inclusive
workplace and culture that values the talents and abilities of individuals with
disabilities.
Submission Requirements
Submit
an essay of up to 4,000 characters on how the company or organization has
created a fully inclusive workplace.
Please include some of the following transformational characteristics:
- Architecturally, how
has the organization or company created a fully accessible workplace?
- What steps were taken
to ensure people with disabilities were included in recruitment efforts?
- What are some of the
best practices that were implemented to provide equal access to employment
opportunities?
- What retention, and advancement
programs were created for employees with disabilities?
- What workplace
mentoring programs or employee resource groups were created to improve
employment outcomes for employees with disabilities?
- What impact has the
organization or company had on its employee’s lives with disabilities.
