“Wake Up to Healing Arts: Using Performance and Media for Direction, Hope, Health and Total Well-being Project, 2.0

Background. “Wake Up to Healing Arts: Using Performance and Media for Direction, Hope, Health, Wellness and Total Well-being, 2.0,” is a performance, media and educational series designed to address mental health issues which have a significant impact on the African American community, with an emphasis on mental health challenges.

Wake Up and Live’s Actors’ Studio (WUAL) is seeking aspiring and experienced actors for its “Healing Arts” project. Inviting actors to submit a 1 – 2 minute video audition, demonstrating their characterization ability, performing a monologue of your choice.


Performances scheduled for Sept. 30, and Oct.18, on Stage, YouTube and “Wake Up and Live With the Arts.”
Stipend will be paid.

The 15-Minute Plays and Monologues

Wake Up to Healing Arts” project is a staged reading of four 15- minute scripts and monologues by Cleveland-area playwrights.

Each play will receive two – three rehearsals.  The plays will all be read on stage as recorded events for virtual distribution. 

 

I Turned Out Fine by Natalya Duncan:

·    GUARDIAN - Black male identifying (20-40 yrs old) - Able to transform quickly from a villain to a someone in great thought.

   A monologue about Physical Abuse. 

 

Soar Spot by Allison Fradkin:

·    DORIS - Female identifying, open age & ethnicity. She is reserved but has a sense of humor and can hold a vocal note

·    WILLONA - Female identifying, open age & ethnicity. Willona is younger than Doris. She is witty and at times sarcastic. She can sing a little as well.

   A play about Sexual Abuse.

 

Stage Ready by Peter Anthony Fields:

·    EUGENE: Male identifying, 55 - 65 years-old; ex-husband and frequent acting partner to Ellie reflective and remorseful. 

·    ELLIE: Female identifying, 55 - 65 years-old; Compassionate and caring ex-wife and frequent acting partner to Eugene.

   A play about Grief.

  

That Precious Sound by Jeremy Gaydosh:

·    SUSIE: Female identifying age 20-30 but passes as a teen, suffers from feelings of depression and anxiety.

   A play about Loneliness

2.      “Healing Arts” events:  Saturday , Sept. 30, (and Wed. Oct. 18.)

 

1.      Select Character breakdown each play to view roles.

2.      Record a performance of your chosen character, Or, a monologue from a previous play.
