Originally produced at A Premiere Playhouse, a regional musical theatre in Columbus, Ohio, Just A Play is a full-length musical comedy built around the role-reversal crisis of a playwright and a theatre critic in the early 1990s. Sharp, witty, and wonderfully theatrical, the show explores what happens when the person reviewing the show unexpectedly has HIS OWN musical performed.
The title song drew special praise from three Columbus theatre critics, with one calling it music “that expertly apes Sondheim” and another describing it as “a bow to Stephen Sondheim’s modern, minor-key harmonies.” This is one of the very few original stories in Darryl Bojanowski’s catalogue of 39 stage-tested musicals—and one of the boldest.
