“Kids Love Musicals!” Teaching Artist Job Description
The Musical Theater Project is seeking one (1) part-time teaching artist to serve in the following capacity as an independent contractor:
Teach in-person, interactive musical theater classes in assigned area schools with students grades K – 4
Lead classroom activities from two provided lesson plans: “Peter Pan” and “Cinderella”
Schedule:
o Usually 4 days per week, consisting of two different schools each week o Up to four (4) classes taught per day; same classes each day
o Most weeks from late March – late May 2022
Work hours are during school days, typically falling between 8am – 3pm
All contracted schools are located within northeast Ohio
Compensation: $200/school
o Teaching Artist will be partially compensated for any Covid-related cancellations
Paid mandatory rehearsals held in Lakewood as follows:
o Feb. 11: 6pm-10pm
o Feb. 12: 12pm-5pm
o Feb. 13: 12pm-5pm
o Feb. 14: 6pm-9pm
o Feb. 19 & 20: Mutually agreeable brush-up (as needed)
• Qualifications:
o Minimum two years of arts education outreach experience with elementary school children, including serving diverse student populations
o Proficiency in vocal musical theater
o High school degree required; college experience preferred
o Outgoing, people-oriented person with outstanding interpersonal skills
o Pass BCI background check (paid for by The Musical Theater Project)
o Be fully vaccinated including a booster dose by Feb. 1, 2022
o Have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, clean driving record
o Ability to teach masked, socially-distancing children in a classroom setting while wearing a mask
