The 75th annual One World Day (OWD) in the Cleveland Cultural Gardens will be this Sunday August 29 from 11AM – 6PM throughout the Cleveland Cultural Gardens on both MLK and East Boulevard in Rockefeller Park.
The day will begin at 11 AM with an inspiring Naturalization Ceremony where new citizens will be sworn in at the new Centennial Peace Plaza (see attached map).
The Parade of Flags will feature dozens of nationalities in ethnic costumes. It steps off at noon from the Irish Garden and goes north to the Italian Garden on MLK. This will be followed by a brief Welcoming Ceremony including dignitaries, the National Anthem by the Men of Independence and dignitaries including Mayor Jackson.
The Centennial Peace Plaza will feature many acts including the Singing Angels at 3 PM and the Moises Borges Band at 5PM. Throughout the day there will be ethnic performances throughout the Gardens such as Cleveland Contemporary Chinese
Culture Association in the Chinese Garden, Murphy Irish Dancers in the Irish Garden, Sho-Jo-Ji Japanese dancers in the Syrian Garden, Sarena Tamburitza Orchestra in the Croatian Garden, the Cuyahoga Cossacks in the Russian Garden, Djapo African dance and many more.
In addition there will be other events in the Gardens such as Yoga in the India Garden, Rubik Cube demos in the Hungarian Garden, celebrations of Ukrainian Garden’s
80th Anniversary and the 30th anniversary of Ukrainian Independence, India’s Independence Day, Marionettes in the Czech Garden and a Vietnamese fashion show.
The Children’s Village will include free books for kids, projects using recyclables, storytelling, the Cleveland Orchestra offering hands on introductions to instruments and more. There will be numerous ethnic food vendors including Egyptian street food from King Tut, the Hofbrauhaus, Budapest Café in Hungarian Garden, CCGF Beer Garden and more. The World Market Place will feature shopping, food and resources.
Visitors will receive a free souvenir information booklet as well as a Passport that can be stamped at each Garden and be eligible for prizes.
There is free parking and Spin will have scooters available to get around quickly.
The Cleveland Cultural Gardens are spread out over 254+ acres. All city, state and CDC guidelines will be followed. Hand sanitizers will be available throughout the gardens, signage will be also visible, keeping yourself and your family safe is very important, please also keep your social distancing and wash your hands often. The large footprint and outdoor venue along with appropriate behavior will make it a safe day for all.
