SUMMER TRAINING - 2017
Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute (HBTI) , now in it's 5th year, offers performing arts training and professional production experiences for young people from first grade through college.
HBTI, a part of the Performing Arts Department at Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, offers young people a challenging curriculum of drama, dance and/or music, as well as the opportunity to participate in fully staged productions. HBTI boasts instructors who are some of the top professional actors, directors, designers and academics in the area, and who have a long list of successful former students who have gone on to Broadway, film and television. HBTI faculty for 2017 season include Tess Burgler, Jenny Burnett, India Burton, Anjanette Hall, T.J.Hanley, Dan Hendrock Bebe Weinberg Katz, John Krol, Joe Pine, R.Scott Posey, Austin Riley, Bob Russell, Rebekah Sharpe, Katie Zarecki and Ryan Zarecki. Directing the main stage productions will be Bebe Weinberg Katz ,Fred Sternfeld, and Dan Hendrock with music direction by John Krol, scenic design by T. Paul Lowry, sound design by Carlton Guc and costume design by Jackie Guerra
HBTI offers programs on three levels: PRIME( grades 1-4) :and PERFORMING ARTS TRAINING: Middle (grades 5 – 8) Upper (9th- college).
Sessions One and Two are each 3-week long and Sessions Three is for 2 weeks. Session start dates are June 19, July 10 and July 31st respectively.
Director Bebe Weinberg Katz said, "While the training at HBTI is geared toward the young performer interested in a professional theatre career, our students gain the confidence, discipline and social skills that will help give them the extra edge in this highly-competitive world, no matter what their eventual field of pursuit. The students also find the process immensely FUN, exciting, rewarding and a great place to make life long friends."
Since 2013 Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute (HBTI) has been the summer theatre home for more than 600 students who have taken classes and workshops in acting, musical theatre and dance and nearly 300 of its students have been involved in HBTI's highly acclaimed productions. HBTI will also mount two full productions: Children of Eden, directed by Bebe Weinberg Katz, with associate direction by Fred Sternfeld ( June 30-July 9) and Side Show, directed by Dan Hendrock (July 28 – August 6). HBTI productions are a direct extension of the training. "Our shows allow the students to apply the tools and techniques they learn during the day in productions mounted by top professional directors and designers." Katz added, "Our young performers have the opportunity to participate in production of the highest professional level." There is still time to audition to join the ensemble in both productions.
