The
Emperor of Lincoln Street
A drama in 2 acts that
highlights a successful, upper-middle class, African American family in
1968. Set in the fictitious city of Jefferson. The play addresses the
issues of sibling rivalry, race in the African American community (at that
time), homosexuality, and the price of success.
The main character, NAPPY, is
a "self made man" who is tough on his family and demands respect from
all that cross his path. He is conflicted with the changes he sees in his
community and his family's desire to leave his oppressive control and find
their own lives. He loves them but does not know how to communicate that love.
What is a
Dramatic Reading ?
It’s a ‘Dry Run’ for a play. There
are no props or staging. It’s just the acting out of the written word. It is
the audience’s chance to “see” the play in their minds…It’s a chance for the
Author, Director and Producer to
“see” the reaction of an audience.
Please, come, enjoy and share your opinion of this
effort. We plan for a full stage play early in 2017.
Thank you in advance!
