Lorain County Community College and Spark Theatre Company announce non-equity auditions for our upcoming collaborative production of Posters and Flip Flops, to be rehearsed safely and filmed for schools to use as a virtual field trip. We are seeking 6-8 performers and some other positions for this production.
Posters and Flip Flops is a World Premiere of a new play by LCCC alumnus, Jeremy Gaydosh. Loosely based on Antigone, Posters and Flip Flops takes place today and follows the story of a bright, young student who takes on her school’s dress code policy when she notices inequities in how it is enforced. Full of humor and a powerful message, Posters and Flip Flops is intended primarily for a middle and high school audience.

Spark Theatre Company and LCCC Theatre embrace diversity and inclusion and utilize a non-traditional casting policy. Non-Traditional Casting is a method designed to increase artistic options by expanding casting opportunities for women, actors of color, seniors and actors with disabilities in roles where race, gender, age or the presence or absence of a disability are not germane. To that end, we encourage all actors to audition. All actors are encouraged to audition, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity or physical ability.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: Friday, February 5, 2021
Rehearsals
Digital rehearsals scheduled around actor availability late February-April 2021. Distanced, masked, in-personal rehearsals starting roughly March 29, 2021. In-person rehearsals and filming will take place on the campus of Lorain County Community College in Elyria.
Performance
Performance will be filmed the week of April 5, 2021.
Spark Theatre Company and Lorain County Community College are committed to creating this project as safely as possible. As such, we are implementing the following:
- Digital rehearsals as much as possible
- Individual staging rehearsals (one for each actor) to walk individual blocking with director, asst. director and stage manager; distanced and masked
- Blocking created with distance in mind as much as possible
- Limited in-person rehearsals (outside if possible) with masks aside from filming date, distanced for everyone in room or outside
- Individual costume fittings with masks and temp checks
- Temperature and Symptom Checks at all in-person meetings
- Sanitizing all props, set pieces and frequently touched surfaces after each use
- Create an agreed upon COVID Code of Conduct with cast and crew that everyone is comfortable with
- Cast & crew will be COVID tested prior to the filming date
- All in-person rehearsals/filming days limited to 10 people
There is a possibility for a live performance in mid to late April, pending coronavirus status at that time and agreement of cast/crew. This is tentative and does not impact ability to be cast. Actors who are uncomfortable with the possibility of a live performance should still audition, and do not have to be a part of this added opportunity.
