Theatre on the Spectrum, NE Ohio’s only day theatre company for adults with disabilities, presents “Clowning Around,” an hour’s worth of original clown comedy acts. The performances will be held at the Blue Box Studio, 1501 S Hawkins Ave, Akron OH 44320 — in the New Season plaza.
Company members were inspired by working with Gale McNeely, a traveling clown and commedia teacher from California, who led a workshop with the troupe this past fall. Clowning involves learning many physical skills. The challenge for the company was finding ways to include all abilities in the comedy. Through collaboration and creative thinking, the actors have devised a montage of clown acts that include tributes to traditional circus clowns, William Shakespeare, the Kinks, and Samuel Beckett. This production is co-directed by Wendy Duke and Ruben Ryan.
Performance dates are: March 18, 20 & 21 at noon; March 22 at 7 pm
March 25, 27, 28 at 1 pm; March 29 at 7 pm
